CCO 2014 Awards: Outstanding Graduate in Human Services

CCO 2014 Award for Outstanding Graduate in Human Services

Lynn Courey, Herzing College

When Lynn graduated from Herzing College’s Community Service Worker program in February 2014, she had a 3.98GPA and was on both the honour roll and the Dean’s list. “Lynn Courey was ‘unstoppable’ in her pursuit of learning,” wrote CSW instructor Joanne Goodyear. She not only demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm towards her studies, but also took time to help students that were struggling.  Lynn has volunteered with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) since 2012, where Social Worker Adina Herbert says “Lynn has enriched our program in tremendous ways and serves as an inspiration for each parent she mentors through our group.” After losing her daughter to suicide after a battle with Borderline Personality Disorder in 2011, Lynn has worked to reduce the stigma of mental illness and break down barriers which prevent families from accessing the treatment they need by organizing presentations and a walk in her role as the Director of The Sashbear Foundation.
