Canada's Federal Budget Includes Efforts To Assist Career Colleges

On April 21, 2015, the Minister of Finance, Joe Oliver, delivered the Economic Action Plan 2015, the Harper-Government’s balanced budget, and a low-tax plan for jobs, growth and security.

This recently-released budget included several efforts that will assist both career college students and career colleges themselves.

Some of these efforts include:

  • Canada Student Loans Program – Prior to the new budget, eligibility for this program was limited to a 60-week minimum, which has now been revised to a 34-week minimum.
  • Student Support – This budget will reduce the expected parental contribution in the Canada Student Loans Program, which will allow for students to get more monetary support from the government.
  • Small and Medium-Sized Business Support – Smaller businesses will receive more support through an assortment of tax measures.
